Party General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong met with former General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President Choummaly Sayasone in Vientiane on February 24.

Mr. Trong expressed the pleasure to meet the former Lao leader, the close friend and comrade of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people.

He briefed his host about the outcomes of his talks and meetings with the country’s top leaders, expressing his delight at the continuous development of bilateral ties.

The Party chief stressed that Viet Nam-Laos relations are exemplary, faithful and pure, which are rare in the world. Amid the complicated context with intertwined  chances and challenges, the maintenance and promotion of their special relationship are essential and match both countries’ development.

In the development of each side and the enhancement of bilateral links, it is vital to learn from experience of former leaders, including former Party General Secretary and President Choummaly Sayasone, so as to unceasingly consolidate these rare relations.

For his part, Mr. Sayasone emphasized that the time-tested Laos-Viet Nam relations have been increasingly strengthened. The friendship between the two countries’ people is extremely profound and inseparable, and the solidification of that special solidarity is vital for both nations, he noted.

He expressed his hope that the two countries will continue training incumbent and future cadres, increase experience sharing and boost mutual understanding between their people, especially younger generations.

Also on February 24, Party General Secretary and President Trong visited the construction site of the building of the Lao National Assembly – a gift from the Vietnamese Party, State and people./.
