VN, Laos aim at a borderline for friendship, peace, and cooperation

VNGOVNet – A meeting between the two border delegations of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic was conducted on March 15-16, 2007 in Vientiane.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Vũ Dũng, Deputy Foreign Minister and head of the Foreign Ministry's Border Department. The host was Phongsavat Boupha, Deputy Foreign Minister and head of the Laos-Viet Nam Border Board.
The two sides discussed the demarcation of the remaining section of the common borderline from Marker U-6 to the Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia border T-junction. A draft agreement to readjust the starting point of the Laos-Vietnam borderline was also mentioned. So, the entire common borderline of Vietnam and Laos was demarcated, running over 2,000km from the China-Laos-Vietnam T-junction to the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam border interchange.

The negotiators also discussed the issues relating to border management and agreed on the collaboration in holding the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Vietnam Border Demarcation Treaty. The event will be a part of the two countries’ national programs to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic tie estalishing and the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Laos and Vietnam.

The two sides agreed to entrust experts to futher complete border markers and build a Laos-Vietnam borderline of friendship, peace, stability, cooperation and long-term development.
