PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng made the statement while hosting a reception on Tuesday to Kazakhstan’s Deputy FM Ermakhbaev who is attending the ongoing 4th meeting of the Việt Nam–Kazakhstan Inter-governmental Committee for economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation.

The Vietnamese PM took the occasion to ask the Government of Kazakhstan to continue backing the Việt Nam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) in petroleum activities there. He also pledged to support Kazakhstan’s petroleum group in similar operations in Việt Nam’s continental shelf.

Emphasizing that the Government of Việt Nam would consolidate its friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Kazakhstan, the host urged the two countries’ competent agencies to speed up negotiations for an agreement on avoiding double taxation.

For his part, Deputy FM Ermakhbaev showed his admiration and impression on Việt Nam’s recent achievements, especially sustaining a relatively high growth rate despite the global financial crisis and economic downturn.

He revealed that his President is planning an official visit to Việt Nam in the near future.

In mid-September 2009, in his official visit to Kazakhstan, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and the host leader reached agreement on measures to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation. Accordingly, priorities will be given to petroleum activities which are considered a field of strategic cooperation.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and his Kazakh counterpart Karim Masimov witnessed the signing of seven documents, including four government-level agreements on investment encouragement and protection, on education and training cooperation, on Vietnamese and Kazakh citizens working in their respective countries, and on the travel of Vietnamese and Kazakh citizens.
