VN, Japan boost industrial linkages

VGP – The first meeting of the Steering Committee on Industrialization Strategy within the Vietnam-Japan cooperation framework towards 2020 was held on August 14 in Hanoi.

August 16, 2012 8:23 AM GMT+7

Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai presided over the meeting which drew the attendance of Japan's Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yukio Edano, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yasuaki Tanizaki and representatives of Japan’s international organizations.

The strategy is expected to set an initial step to realize the Joint Statement reached by the two PMs last October in which Vietnam hopes to receive more support from Japan for the process of industrialization.

Agencies from both sides would compose action plans, groups of solutions, mechanisms and policies to develop bilateral industrial linkages.

Minister Yukio Edano said that Japan would push up the formulation of the strategy and follow-up action plans, seek potential investors and share information with Vietnamese agencies.

He went on to say that the East Asian country always backs closer cooperation with Vietnam, especially through high technology-based and value-added industries and sustainable and eco-friendly projects.

At the meeting, Deputy PM Hai requested that the Steering Committee early select name and scope of the strategy and submit it to the PM in November for approval.

According to the draft strategy, the two sides selected five potential industries, including electricity-electronics, food processing, ship building, agricultural machine, environmental industry and energy savings. In addition to that are four other fields, namely the manufacture of motorbikes, steel and automobile and garments./.
