VN, India discuss joint vision to foster bilateral ties

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Indian President Ram Nath Kovind discussed a joint vision to further deepen the Viet Nam-India comprehensive strategic partnership during their meeting in Ha Noi on Tuesday on occasion of the latter’s three-day State visit to Viet Nam.

The two leaders agreed to regularly maintain visits and meetings at all levels and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, effectively implement the existing cooperation mechanisms and seek new measures to further foster bilateral relations. 

PM Phuc took the occasion to extend his invitation to Indian PM Narendra Modi to visit Viet Nam.

The leaders highlighted that security and defense cooperation has been increasingly effective and a key pillar of the bilateral ties, applauding the implementation of the US$100 million credit package to build high-speed patrol boats for Vietnamese border forces.

They pair agreed to give priority to promoting economic cooperation in the years to come in order to realize the bilateral trade goal of US$15 billion.

PM Phuc appreciated India’s investment in the domains like energy, renewable energy and high-tech agriculture on which Viet Nam places high priority.

The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation between the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group (Petro Viet Nam) and the Indian Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), particularly in terms of oil exploration and exploitation.

They also agreed to actively implement the commitments enshrined in the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in oil and gas exploration projects in third countries.

Both the host and the guest agreed to continue working closely and supporting each other at regional and international forums, especially within the United Nations.

For the East Sea issue, the two sides agreed on the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the sea; and peacefully settling disputes in accordace with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and soon concluding an effective and binding Code of Conduct (COC) in the East Sea./.
