VN, Germany to build bilateral strategic action plan for 2022-2023 period

VGP – Viet Nam and Germany agreed to jointly build a strategic action plan during 2022-2023, with a focus on exchange of high-level visits and fostering dialogue mechanisms and cooperation.

The agreement was reached between Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and German counterpart Heiko Maas during their phone conversation on May 25.

Bui reassrured that Viet Nam attaches importance to deepening the strategic partnership with Germany, expressing thanks to Germany and the EU for providing COVID-19 vaccine to Viet Nam via the COVAX Facility, suggesting Germany facilitate Viet Nam's access to German vaccine resources and vaccine production technology. 

He proposed the German Government and Parliament speed up the approval process of the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement. 

Maas spoke highly of Viet Nam’s efforts in containing COVID-19 and the close coordination between the two sides in handling the pandemic crisis. 

He praised Viet Nam’s role and status in realizing the Germany’s policy guidelines on the Indo-Pacific region with a view to strengthening cooperation between Germany and the region in economy, trade and investment, sustainable development and security-defense. 

Both sides expressed delight at the strong comprehensive and effective advancement of the bilateral relationship since the two countrise set up strategic partnership 10 years ago.

They agreed on measures to further promote bilateral cooperation in economic, trade, investment, scientific and technological, renewable energy, vocational training, and healthcare sectors.

Regading regional and international situation, both sides underline the importance of upholding international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, for the peace and stability in the region and the world. 

They also highlighted the ASEAN's central role and voiced support for efforts to seek sustainable peace solutions to Myanmar./.
