VN, Cuba head to sign new Free Trade Agreement

VGP – The 35th meeting of the Viet Nam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee concluded on October 3 in Ha Noi.

At the meeting, the two sides reviewed the implementation of the 34th meeting’s minutes and put forward specific measures to increase the efficiency of the committee’s operations and the two countries’ cooperation in the upcoming time.

They inked the minutes of the 35th meeting which set out cooperative activities, programs and plans, especially the soon signing of a new Trade Agreement and the launch of investment projects between their businesses. 

Minister of Construction Pham Hong Ha said that the two sides are determined to enhancing multi-faceted relations between their ministries, agencies and businesses. 

Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz expected to promote cooperation in pharmacy and health with Viet Nam. 

In the future, they will focus on such priorities as signing the new Free Trade Agreement, a rice development project in 2017-2020 phase, a coffee development plan and head to specific cooperation in tourism, health, vaccine production, science and technology and telecommunications. 

They agreed to encourage the Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Cuba in fields of building material, hotel construction, infrastructure development and clean energy development. 

In 2016, Viet Nam ranked second among trade partners of Cuba in the Asia-Pacific region and listed among top 10 largest trade partners with Cuba.
