During his working session with Chilean Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero Espinoza on July 4, Politburo member Hue, who is on an official visit to Chile, hailed Chile as a leading partner of Viet Nam in Latin America.

Minister Espinoza stressed Chile’s appreciation of Viet Nam’s role in Southeast Asia, agreeing to join Viet Nam in promoting free trade and investment, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and strengthening people-to-people exchange.

The two sides agreed to make closer cooperation to contribute to Chile’s successful organization of the APEC Year 2019, as well as effective coordination at other multilateral forums. They also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including maritime and aviation freedom, security and safety, and the strict compliance with international laws in the East Sea.

Meeting with Chilean Finance Minister Felipe Larrain Bascuñan, Deputy PM Hue congratulated Chile on its avoiding the “middle-income trap” and resolving the issue of public debt, urging both sides to accelerate the sharing of experience in macro-finance management, and finalize the legal frameworks to facilitate their businesses’ access to the Southeast Asian and Latin American markets.

Bascuñan also voiced willingness to boost financial cooperation and share experience in managing the financial and monetary policies with Viet Nam.

He asked Viet Nam to share its experience in hosting the APEC Year 2017, while calling for Viet Nam’s support and coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the agenda of the APEC Year 2019.

The same day, Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue visited and talked with officials and employees at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Chile.
