The 16th meeting aims to review Viet Nam-Cambodia cooperation since the conclusion of the 15th meeting, in addition to discussing specific ways and measures to continue facilitating the comprehensive and stable cooperation between the two countries.

The event takes place as the friendly relations and cooperation between Viet Nam and Cambodia continue to be accelerated in all spheres. The mechanisms of meetings and delegation exchanges have been maintained by the two sides, including bilateral high-level meetings on the sidelines of regional and international forums.

Both sides have also maintained and effectively promoted the mechanisms of bilateral cooperation, as well as cooperation between ministries, sectors and localities, and people-to-people exchange. Bilateral defence and security cooperation has achieved a lot of positive results. The two countries have worked well with each other in border management, basically maintaining a stable borderline and boosting people-to-people exchange between their border localities.

Viet Nam and Cambodia have also seen positive developments in bilateral economic, trade, and investment cooperation. Two-way trade reached US$3.8 billion in 2017, up 27% compared to 2016. Viet Nam is currently one of the top five investors in Cambodia, with 203 projects totally worth US$3.02 billion.
