During their talks in Phnom Penh on Tuesday, the two PMs agreed to continue tightening cooperation in security and defense and in the fight against terrorism, transnational crime, smuggling, drug and human trafficking.

Highly valuing the outcomes of the mutual high-level visits over the past years, the two sides agreed to continue beefing up the exchange of delegations at all levels and facilitating cooperation in such potential areas like trade-investment, banking, energy, mineral exploitation, transport, telecommunication, education and training.

The two PMs committed to close collaboration in searching for and returning remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who lost their lives in Cambodia during wartime.

Both sides agreed to further encourage local-to-local trade-service exchanges and cooperation, especially between border provinces based on the spirit of neighborly friendship and comprehensive cooperation.

The two PMs agreed to direct the Viet Nam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Land Border Demarcation and Marker Planting to accelerate talks to seek solutions to the remaining border sections while working closely in border management to build the shared borderline of sustainable peace, stability, cooperation and development.

PM Hun Sen suggested the two countries should focus on fostering activities of their cooperative mechanisms to make practical contributions to the advancement of the bilateral ties.

Meanwhile, PM Phuc spoke highly of Cambodia’s efforts to help overseas Vietnamese to live and work in the country, asking the Cambodian side to take proper measures to improve their legal status, including grant of birth certificates and Cambodian nationality.

In response, PM Hun Sen said he will direct relevant agencies to create favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to enjoy equal treatment like other foreign nationals living in Cambodia.

The two PMs also exchanged views on enhancing cooperation within ASEAN, sub-regional cooperative mechanisms as well as international issues of common concerns.

After their talks, the two PMs witnessed the signing ceremony of four cooperative documents on transport, drug detoxification and fishery.

The same day, PM Phuc and his Spouse laid wreaths at the Independence Monument, the Monument honoring the late King Norodom Sihanouk, and the Cambodia-Viet Nam Friendship Monument
