Vietnam and Cambodia established official diplomatic relations on June 24, 1967. Previously, the two peoples always united, supported and assisted each other in various fields. Over the past half of century, many generations of leaders and people of the two countries have made great efforts to develop the bilateral relationship.

Addressing the anniversary, NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng emphasized that the Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity and friendship is an invaluable property of the two nations. He asked people of Vietnam and Cambodia, particularly the young generation, to uphold and further consolidate this traditional relation in an attempt to lifting it to a new height of “Good neighborhood, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-lasting stability”.

On behalf of the Kingdom of Cambodia Government and people, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Vann Phal expressed his gratitude to the Vietnamese Government and people for comprehensive cooperation and assistance over the past time. He stressed that, in the spirit of good and close neighborhood, Vietnam and Cambodia will unite and cooperate together forever for a sustainable and well-develop relationship.

Since 2006, economic ties between Vietnam and Cambodia have developed considerably. Import-export turnover has increased by 30%, reaching nearly US$ 1 billion. The two Governments agreed to increase the two-way trade turnover to US$ 2 billion by 2010. To the end of 2006, Cambodia had four investment projects in Vietnam worth of US$ 4 million. Meanwhile, 15 Vietnamese projects of US$ 30 million are implemented in Cambodia. Up to now, seven border economic zones and 39 border markets have been founded along the Vietnam-Cambodia border line. The two countries have realized many preferential policies, including a policy on zero import tax applied for 40 agricultural products from Cambodia.
