While receiving Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin in Ha Noi on January 4, NA Chairman Hung congratulated Cambodia on its recent successful parliamentary election and Heng Samrin’s induction as NA Chairman.

He expressed his belief under the leadership of King Norodom Sihamoni, the NA, the Senate, and the Royal Government, Cambodia will make new achievements in national construction and socio-economic development.

Heng Samrin is leading a delegation to a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of the southwest border defence war victory as well as the shared triumph over the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime (January 7).

Heng Samrin said a large part of Cambodia’s victory over Pol Pot’s regime was won through the great sacrifice of voluntary Vietnamese soldiers. Viet Nam helped usher Cambodia out of one of its darkest periods.

The two NA leaders briefed each other on their respective countries’ socio-economic development and discussed issues of mutual concern.

They committed to creating the best possible conditions for practical bilateral business cooperation that benefits both nations and promotes peace and stability in the region and the world.

They agreed to realize the cooperation agreement between the two NAs through direct visit exchanges, legislative experience sharing, and coordinated supervision and oversight.

Mr. Heng Samrin said the Cambodian NA supports the recent border demarcation agreement and expressed confidence Viet Nam and Cambodia can successfully construct a shared border of peace and friendship.

NA Chairman Hung invited Mr. Heng Samrin to attend the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly in Hanoi in 2015.

The host leader hosted a banquet welcoming Mr. Heng Samrin and his encourage later the same day./.
