VN, Cambodia agree to organize events to mark victory over genocidal regime

VGP – Viet Nam and Cambodia have agreed to continue deepening mutual political trust and security-defense cooperation in order to firmly protect the peaceful environment in each countries, contributing to peace and stability in the region.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the above statement at joint press briefing with his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Techo Hun Sen following the pair’s talks in Ha Noi on Friday.

The two countries also agreed to organize various activities to mark the 40th anniversary of the victory over the genocidal Khmer Rouge Regime (January 7, 1979-January 1, 2019), according to PM Phuc.

These kinds of activities aim to remind of the two countries’ past joint efforts and sacrifices for today’s peace and stability so that generations of the two sides, especially young generations, should continue the sense of responsibility for promoting the bilateral solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation.

The two PM underlined the importance of doubling efforts to further intensify economic cooperation to make it a firm pillar of the bilateral ties.

They tasked their relevant competent agencies to well handle the remaining issues related to border work and Vietnamese Cambodians based on the spirit of friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries.

Both sides will strive to sign two documents legalizing the outcomes of land border demarcation and landmark planting in mid 2019 while pledging to complete the rest soon.

Speaking at the press briefing, Cambodian PM Hun Sen said the biggest result of their talks was that the two PMs agreed to further consolidate the Viet Nam-Cambodia relationship.

Regarding border work, PM Hun Sen welcomed the two sides’ latest solutions to settle the remaining issues, expressing his pleasure to see that the joint border line, once battle field, has become market area where people of the two countries carry out trading activities well.

Hun Sen confirms no foreign military bases in Cambodia

Also at the press briefing, Cambodian PM Hun Sen denied the news saying that Cambodia is prepared for a foreign military base in his country.

“I would like to say that the new is fake,” said PM Hun Sen, adding that Cambodia’s Constitution shall not allow any foreign military bases in his country./.
