The statement was made at the press conference on September 13 after the talks between Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh and Azerbaijan’s FM Elmar Mammadyarov on the occasion of the Azerbaijani FM’s official visit to Viet Nam from September 12-15.

Deputy PM Minh said that the two sides had sincere and frank talks, exchanging measures to strengthen relations between Viet Nam and Azerbaijan.

The two leaders agreed to enhance friendship and cooperative relations, especially in terms of economics, trade and investment.

He highlighted the active development in the two nations’ trade turnover, which doubled in the first half of 2017 compared to the same period last year.

He assented to uphold the efficiency of the Azerbaijan-Viet Nam Intergovernmental Commission on economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation.

The two sides discussed issues of international and regional concerns, affirming the necessity to contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the world.

They were unanimous on issues in territorial border disputes and disputes in the East Sea must be addressed with peaceful measures, based on the international laws, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.

Deputy PM Minh expected that the talks with Azerbaijan’s FM will make contribution to promoting the friendship and cooperative relations between the two nations.

During the talks, the two leaders discussed cooperative areas, including traditional cooperative sectors such as energy and referred to new cooperative fields such as transport and connection.
