VN, Australia head to Strategic Partnership

VGP – Australian FM Julie Bishop affirmed that Viet Nam holds a crucial position in Australia’s diplomatic policy, expecting to enhance the relationship with Viet Nam in all fields.

The Australian FM Julie Bishop made that statement at her meeting with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on November 8 in the framework of the APEC High Level Week 2017. 

At the meeting, she extended condolences to victims of typhoon Damrey, valuing efforts of the Vietnamese Government in overcoming consequences, stabilizing lives and preparing for the APEC High Level Week. 

The two sides appraised achievements in Viet Nam-Australia Comprehensive Partnership in such areas as trade, defense, security, education and development. 

They asserted to maintain consultancy between their Ministries of Foreign Affairs, make preparations for upcoming high-ranking visits and head to celebrate the 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties by 2018 and soon raise the relationship to Strategic Partnership. 

Deputy PM Minh lauded Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects sponsored by Australia for Viet Nam’s socio-economic development, improving the environment, supporting start-up and enhancing gender equality in Viet Nam, contributing to establishing Economic Partnership between the two sides. 

The two leaders hailed the mutual support during the process of running for seats in international organizations and crucial agencies of the United Nations.

They shared their viewpoints on challenges on the regional security, consenting to closely cooperate at high-ranking summits of ASEAN and make contribution to peace, stability and cooperation in the region. 

Australia confirmed to advocate Viet Nam to successfully organizing the APEC Summit and continuing upholding outcomes of APEC in the future to boost trade liberalization in the region. 

The occasion, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh and Australian FM Julie Bishop witnessed the signing ceremony of the project on enhancing gender equality in the northern provinces of Son La and Lao Cai.
