A ceremony was held on May 10 in Ho Chi Minh City to announce the Politburo's decision dated on May 9, 2017.

The event was attended by National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission Pham Minh Chinh.

For his part, Mr. Nhan pledged to spare no effort to accomplish the assigned mission and develop HCM City.

The Politburo also decided that Mr. Dinh La Thang, former Politburo member and former Secretary of HCMC Party Committee, will undertake the position of Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Economic Affairs.

Earlier, with over 90% of votes, the 12th Party Central Committee last Sunday decided to give warning to and remove Mr. Dinh La Thang from the Politburo.

He was disciplined for shortcomings and very serious violations in his leadership and personnel work between 2009 and 2011 as former Secretary of the Party Committee and former Chairman of the Member Council of the National Oil and Gas Group (PVN)./.
