The facility (named S5) has 15 training rooms capable of accommodating 600 learners at the same time, and a 254-seat conference hall.

Meanwhile, the package of equipment will be used for training in setting up a level-two field hospital by the Vietnamese peacekeeping force, which is scheduled to run in Bentiu, South Sudan, replacing the UK’s facility in the second quarter of 2018.

The US-funded facility and equipment are part of concrete steps to realize the Viet Nam-US comprehensive partnership reached in 2013.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony, Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Chi Vinh said defense ties between Viet Nam and the US has strongly advanced in recent years with peacekeeping field as a good example.

The facilities and equipment provided by the US and other countries will help upgrade the Viet Nam Peacekeeping Center into a key facility for peacekeeping training in Viet Nam and the region, said the Deputy Minister of National Defense.

The US Ambassador to Viet Nam Ted Osius said the US will continue assistance for Viet Nam to enhance its peacekeeping capacity./.
