The five-year document was inked by MOLISA Deputy Minister Nguyen Trong Dam and USAID Viet Nam Mission Director Joakim Parker

The MoU targets promoting the rights of persons with disabilities through the development and implementation of policies, legislation, communication activities and support programmes; providing therapeutic services and rehabilitation; improving the delivery of services; and building a network of highly qualified staff and organisations providing services to people with disabilities.

Under the plan, the USAID will give technical assistance to the Vietnamese Government’s programs on creating favourable conditions for the target group, perfecting related policies and laws, implementing support action plans, and increasing the engagement of the disabled and their organisations in building and supervising policies and services

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of MoLISA Nguyen Trong Dam affirmed Viet Nam’s efforts in implementing the rights of persons with disabilities, which was marked by the adaptation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities during the recent 13th National Assembly’s eighth session.

USAID Director in Viet Nam Joakim Parker said that the signing would mark a new start by enhancing co-operation and efforts to promote quality services, improve independent living and social integration, and promote the abilities of people with disabilities in the community.
