President G. Bush’s decision to approve PNTR for Vietnam is considered as a landmark in the full rapprochement of the Vietnam-US bilateral relationship in line with the fine development in the two countries’ relations.

“The application of PNTR will lay a sustainable foundation for the development of the Vietnam-US relationship in all fields, especially economy, trade and investment. From now on, Vietnam and the US will become equal trade partners who will observe each other's commitments within the WTO framework,” said Mr. Lê Dũng, the Spokesman of Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also asserted that Vietnam expressed its hope that in the time to come, the Vietnam-US relationship will be further strengthened and developed to become a constructive and friendly partnership for multi-faceted cooperation on the basis of equality, mutual respect, non-intervention into each other’s internal affairs and shared benefits./.
