U.S. Ambassador extends congratulations to VN's newly-elected State President

VGP – U.S. Ambassador Kritenbrink has released a Statement on October 23 on the occasion of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s assumption of the Presidency.

October 23, 2018 4:05 PM GMT+7

The Statement writes that:

On behalf of the United States Mission in Viet Nam, I extend my congratulations to Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, on the occasion of his assumption of the Presidency.

President Trong’s selection comes at a time when our bilateral ties with Viet Nam have never been stronger.  Over the past two decades, the United States and Viet Nam have come together to find common purpose based on shared interests.

We have expanded our security ties, forged new economic and commercial linkages, and deepened our people-to-people engagement.  We share a common desire to promote peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

We look forward to continuing to work closely with President Trong on further strengthening and expanding the U.S.-Viet Nam Comprehensive Partnership./.
