US - number-1 importer of VN’s garment and textile

VGP - The US has become the top export market for Việt Nam's garments and textiles (GT) for the past several years. It paid over US $5 billion for Vietnamese GT in 2008 and holds 57% of the market share of these products.

Việt Nam's garment and textile export turnover still remains high

The US statistic sources show that Việt Nam ranked the 2nd among the biggest exporters of pulls, T-shirts and sport clothes to the US and the 4th supplier of khaki and kate products.

Made-in-Việt Nam garments and textiles have been deeply rooted in the US. However, the market’s untapped potential remains great because the US spent US $90 billion to import the products last year.
According to the US customs, Việt Nam's GT market share jumped to 4.74% in the first quarter from 3.4% in the same period last year.
Since 2009, Việt Nam will participate in the Magic Fair, the world’s largest fashion event held annually in Las Vegas in February and August, to promote Vietnamese GT trademarks, said Mr. Lê Quốc Ân, Chairman of the Việt Nam Garment and Textile Association (Vinatext).
At a recent working session in Hồ Chí Minh City, Mrs. Karalynn L.Sprouse, Vice President of Magic International, the fair organizing board, said that GT consumption is still high in the US despite the current global economic turmoil.
Sixty five percent of the US population tend to use low-priced GT products, thus it would be a good chance for the Vietnamese enterprises to raise their shares in the US market.

According to the Vinatex, Việt Nam is the only ASEAN member boasting for positive growth in GT in 2009.
