UN launches photo contest to commemorate 75th anniversary

VGP - The United Nations in Viet Nam is launching a photo contest “The Future I Want” as a part of the initiative to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations (“UN75”).

June 10, 2020 9:05 AM GMT+7

The contest aims to invite people in Viet Nam to join the global conversation on shaping the future we want and to share their needs, challenges and aspirations in the form of photography to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

The year 2020 marks the 75th year of the United Nations’ journey towards peace and development. This year also marks the 5th year since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015, which outlines 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve by 2030.

It is a crucial year to reflect on the past 5 years, learn from the challenges in the lead up to the achievement of SDGs.

Moreover, Viet Nam is playing an important role in building peace and international solidarity as ASEAN Chair and the non-permanent member of Security Council in 2020.

The UN75 initiative has launched a one-minute survey to collect people’s priorities in order to build more sustainable and stronger future.

With focus on “people”, the UN75 initiative aims at listening closer to the people’s voices while highlighting the importance of global cooperation and multilateralism in order to tackle existing challenges such as disparities and gender inequality, rising conflicts, climate change and global warming.

Amidst COVID-19, the worst global health crisis in its history, UN75 continues to implement and scale up to generate the "world's biggest conversation" on the future we want, whilst being responsive to the rapidly changing situation in different parts of the world due to COVID-19.

Photography is a powerful medium of expression that can be used to communicate strong positive messages and impactful stories.

Following the UN75 initiative, the UN in Viet Nam is launching “The Future I Want” Photo Contest and is inviting the public, especially the youth, to creatively express their opinions and views on the challenges they face and actions needed to shape the better future through visual storytelling.

Furthermore, the contest proactively encourages people to share their thoughts and opinions in the journey towards shaping the future which takes the SDGs as the shared vision of the future people want.

“The Future I Want” Photo contest will be run from 8 June to October 2020.
