Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement at a reception for a delegation of chief representatives of the UN’s agencies in Viet Nam, headed by UN Resident Coordinator to the country, Kamal Malhotra, in Ha Noi on October 17.

The Government leader expressed his delights to meet the chief representatives on the 40thanniversary of Viet Nam’s UN membership, affirming that Viet Nam highly values the central role played by the UN in building the international law system, maintaining peace, preventing conflicts and responding to global challenges.

Viet Nam is proud to be one of the leading countries in the Delivering as One (DAO) initiative of the UN and to be home to the first Green One UN House in the world, he said, hailing the house as a symbol of cooperation between the two sides as well as the UN’s determination to strengthen the system integrity and operational efficiency.

For his part, UN Resident Coordinator to Viet Nam, Kamal Malhotra, conveyed his congratulations on the 40th anniversary of Viet Nam’s joining of the UN, as well as on the significant socio-economic achievements attained by the country over the past few years.

He affirmed the UN’s strong support for Viet Nam in the process of implementing the Agenda 2030, especially supporting the country’s participation in the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development next year.

The UN will also support Viet Nam in integrating sustainable development goals via the implementation of a national review and the development of the private economic sector, with the engagement of all social strata, Malhotra said.

PM Phuc called on the UN’s organizations to continue promoting their roles and making practical contributions to Viet Nam’s common development, affirming that the Vietnamese Government will continue facilitating cooperation with the UN and creating favorable conditions for the UN’s organizations in Viet Nam to effectively implement cooperative programs and projects.

2017 is the first year that Viet Nam has begun to implement the Viet Nam-UN One Strategic Plan for 2017-2021, which aims to support the Vietnamese Government to fulfill its socio-economic development plan during the 2016-2020 period and sustainable development goals, he said.

The PM called on the UN to support Viet Nam in mobilizing the sufficient and sustainable resources, in terms of finance, experience and high-quality human resources, in order to successfully realize the country’s aforementioned priorities.
