UN Under Secretary General: VN realises MDGs

Mlambo-Ngcuka, who is also Executive Director of UN Women, noted that the country’s achievements are based on reports in the UN’s review and evaluation on the MDGs.

After a meeting with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, she said that the country’s experience in ensuring social welfare and gender equality will be shared with other countries.

UN Women will support Viet Nam in defending its report on implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), said Mlambo-Ngcuka.

She spoke highly of the country’s contributions to building the UN’s development agenda after 2015 and expressed her hope that Viet Nam will attend the Women’s Summit in New York in 2015.

Deputy PM Minh welcomed the UN official and said that gender equality was institutionalized in the country’s newly amended constitution and correlated legal system would be improved.

He briefed Mlambo-Ngcuka about Viet Nam’s efforts in ensuring gender equality and challenges to the country in this area.

Deputy PM Minh also affirmed Viet Nam’s commitments to enhancing international cooperation in gender equality and the UN’s activities.

He expressed his hope that UN Women would continue to support Viet Nam to promote its achievements and address the challenges in ensuring gender equality, implementing international commitments and improving the country’s capacity in preparing the national report in gender equality.
