UN Program on strengthening public health management extended to Stage 2

VNGOVNet – On behalf of the PM, Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm agreed in principle the implementation of the Program "Capacity building support aimed at strengthening the management of public health emergencies in Vietnam". Accordingly, the Program will focus on the prevention and control over potential dangers of epidemics, including Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). It has a total cost of US$ 16,212,441 co-funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to complete, approve and sign the Program’s documents with the donors. The MARD was also entrusted to collaborate with the ministries of Health, Education and Training, Culture and Information to implement the Program.

The UN Program in fact is the second stage of the Program: "Strengthening the management of public health emergencies" ratified by the PM in 2005, which was aimed at controlling and eradicating HPAI in domestic poultry, enhancing the national and local capacity to detect, diagnose, monitor and control outbreaks of diseases of epidemic potential, and assisting Vietnam in preparing for, responding to and recovering from public health emergencies such as HPAI.
