PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng made the statement this morning while attending the launching ceremony of the VOV transport channel on FM 91MHz in Hồ Chí Minh City.

Through the channel, the audience can access to updated information about the city’s transport, even traffic jams, thanks to a system of 200 wireless cameras and VOV reporters.

The VOV Transport has been piloted since December 15, 2009 before being officially broadcast today, with the coverage of 300 km in Hồ Chí Minh City and its surrounding provinces.

Speaking at the ceremony, PM Dũng asserted that, in order mitigate traffic jams in big cities, especially Hồ Chí Minh City, it is necessary to update transport planning schemes and strongly invest in transport infrastructure.

Pointing out people’s poor awareness as one of major causes of bad traffic conditions in Việt Nam, the Government chief suggested that VOV, apart from providing information about traffic jams to facilitate transport convenience, should diversify contents of propagation, particularly disseminating laws on transport, in order to better the public’s awareness and foster transport culture.
