The MoT convened a summary meeting on January 11 in Ha Noi to review operation in 2018 and set targets for 2019.

According a report delivered by the MoT, the ministry fulfilled all working program set for 2018; proposed the National Assembly to amend the Law on Road Traffic; the Law on Inland Waterway; the Viet Nam Maritime Code; the Railway Law.

Quality of transport services was improved. Transport output was estimated at VND 1634 million tons, representing a year-on-year growth of 10%. Passenger transport was 4641 million, up 10.7% against 2017.

Noticeably, the  aviation market grew stably, serving 104 million guests (up 10.4%); transporting 1.5 million tons of cargos (up 8.9%). Domestic airlines handled 50 million guests (up nearly 11%) and transported 410,000 tons of goods (up 28%).

In addition, in 2018, Viet Nam’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) leaped 25 steps forwards against 2016, ranking 39th out of 160 countries and territories.

Moreover, management of construction investment and infrastructure exploitation progressed significantly. Key projects were sped up including Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban metro; Hung Ha bridge project, Da Nang-Quang Ninh Express, Ben Luc-Long Thanh Express, Trung Luong-My Thuan Express.

The MoF also looked into shortcomings of BOT projects and suspended 13 BOTs.

The administrative reform was implemented effectively in which 80 out of 134 products were streamlined. Seven administrative procedures were eliminated.

However, the MoT also acknowledged some limitations including slow progress of some key infrastructure projects and complicated transport accidents with 8248 deaths./.
