Trade deficit hits US$34 million in first half

VGP – The total exports and imports in the first half of 2019 were estimated at US$245.48 billion, according to the General Statistics Office. The trade deficit hit US$34 million in six months, equal to 0.03% of the total export value.

Exports and imports witness respective year-on-year increases of 7.3% and 10.5% over the recent six months of 2019.

As many as 22 items join the US$1 billion export club in the first half of 2019, accounting for 86.9% of the total export value.

Export growths to such markets announce sharp increases in the first half of 2019 as the U.S. (up 27.4%), ASEAN (up 13.1%) and Japan (up 9.1%).

A total number of 26 items post the import value exceeding US$1 billion in the first half of 2019, making up 84.7% of the total import value.

China maintains the largest importer of Viet Nam with US$36.8 billion in six months, up 21.8%.
