In 2007, the sector gained significant achievements through a number of big cultural and tourist events. The number of international tourists to Việt Nam went up by 17.2% against 2006, reaching the record increase in the six successive years since 2002.

The sector plans to speed up the tourist promotion next year in conformity with the roadmap of  international integration, through the following events:

- National Tourist Year 2008 held in Cần Thơ City under the theme “The countryside of Mekong Delta” which is expected to attract over 2 million tourists and the total revenue of VND 600 billion;

- “Going Back the Origin” Program 2008 co-organized by Phú Thọ, Yên Bái and Lào Cai (4.5 million visitors and VND 500 billion in revenue);

- Festival Huế 2008 under the theme “Cultural Heritages with Integration and Development”;

- Campaign for Hạ Long Bay as the World Natural Wonder.

In 2008, Việt Nam will host two beauty contests - Miss Việt Nam Tourism and Miss World, and attend the ASEAN Tourism Forum and TRAVEX Fair.
