Top legislator’s China visit aims to enhance political trust, cooperation

VGP - Top Vietnamese legislator Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan’s official visit to China from from July 8-12 is expected to enhance political trust and foster the implementation of the two countries’ high-level agreements.

Both sides will discussed on ways to strengthen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two neighbors.

Over the past time, Viet Nam and China have maintained regular exchange of high-level delegations and contacts, which have contributed to strengthening bilateral political trust and timely addressing emerging issues in order to advance the bilateral ties stably and sustainably.

In 2018, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the China International Import Expo in Shanghai and met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on the sidelines of the 2nd Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Summit in Cambodia and the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Belgium.

From the Chinese side, Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua attended the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) in Ha Noi in 2018 and Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe paid a visit to Viet Nam in May this year.

In economic front, China is the second biggest importer of Viet Nam after the US while Viet Nam is the biggest trade partner of China in ASEAN.

The two-way trade increased by 13.8% to US$106.7 billion in 2018. In the first four months this year, the trade volume reached US$33.24 billion, up 11.58% from the same period last year.

By the end of May 2019, China had 2,387 projects with total registered investment capital of US$15.1 billion, ranking 7th out of 131 countries and territories investing in Viet Nam.

Each year, more than one million Vietnamese tourists visited China while 1.3 million Chinese tourists visited Viet Nam in the first four months this year.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two countries have maintained regular exchanges at all levels, signed an agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of the sea-related issues, and reached common perceptions on controlling differences and maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea./.
