Top legislator receives IPU Secretary General
VGP – National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan hosted a reception for Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Secretary General Martin Chungong on December 17 in Da Nang on the sidelines of the conference “the National Assembly and sustainable development goals.”

Chairwoman Ngan said she treasured the positive contribution of Mr. Martin Chungon to promoting the relations between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the IPU.
The top legislator also thanked the IPU General Secretary for electing Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for External Relations Nguyen Van Giau as the IPU Vice-President in the 2018-2019.
In reply, the Secretary General praised the Vietnamese National Assembly for hosting the conference on “the National Assembly and Sustainable development goals.”
Viet Nam sets an example in implementing sustainable growth programs and projects. In May 2017, in Ho Chi Minh City, IPU and the Vietnamese National Assembly jointly held a ceremony to announce the tools to assess implementation of sustainable development goals which were designed by the IPU and the UNDP, he said.
The IPU composed and issued tools to assess SDGs fulfillment for parliaments.
Regarding UN-initiated SDGs, the Secretary General discussed nutrition issues and expressed the willingness to shake hands with Viet Nam on this issue./.
