Addressing the event, the top legislator highlighted the significance of the official visit in which she hoped to cement and deepen the enhanced comprehensive partnership between Viet Nam and Australia and boost close coordination among the two legislative bodies.

Ms. Ngan informed the host leader about her recent talks with Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Tony Smith and President of the Senate  Scott Ryan in which the two sides were unanimous in enhancement of reciprocal visits, supervisory tasks of agreement enforcement of  the two Governments; law making in favor of the respective interests.

She emphasized that the bilateral ties have been flourishing in a rapid, effective, and practical manner especially following the establishment of the comprehensive partnership in 2009 and the enhanced comprehensive partnership in March, 2015. Viet Nam, asserted the top legislator, follows the consistent policy of attaching importance to the bilateral ties with Australia.

She was convinced that the upcoming visit of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc scheduled in March 2018 would set a new hallmark with the elevation of the bilateral ties to strategic partnership.

In 2018, the two countries will celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties. Hence, the top legislator proposed the two countries work closely to mark the event in a practical and effective way.

According to Ms. Ngan, Viet Nam and Australia enjoy abundant potentials for cooperation especially in economics, trade, and investment. She was satisfied with the two-way trade turnover which hit US$ 5.2 billion in 2016, making   Australia one of the eight largest trade partners of Viet Nam.

According to Ms. Ngan, Viet Nam and Australia would shake hands with other member states to accelerate the negotiations and implementation of the CPTPP on the basis of mutual benefits and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific Region and the world at large.

The top legislator took the occasion to treasure the Australian Governor General for facilitating the overseas Vietnamese community there.

In return, Australian Governor General Peter Cosgrove congratulated the official visit of the Vietnamese top legislator and high-ranking delegation.

He expressed his pleasure to welcome Vietnamese PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc to pay an official visit to Australia and the future upgrade of diplomatic ties to strategic partnership.
