Song Cong city has attained a lot of significant economic achievements over the past few years, constantly maintaining a relatively high economic growth rate, in addition to positive shifts in its economic structure. The proportion of industry and basic construction accounts for 75.4%; trade in services takes up 17.4%; and the agro-forestry and fisheries sector occupies 7.2%.

In an effort to bring into full play the advantages of each locality, the municipal authorities have encouraged people to shift the structure of crops and domestic animals to increase economic production efficiency, while enhancing services and trade development and boosting exchanges to advertise local potentials and draw investment.

The city has focused on developing the safe tea growing zones under VietGap standard in Ba Xuyen and Tan Quang communes, while mobilizing all resources for economic development, with many favorable mechanisms and policies for all economic sectors.

In 2017, Song Cong city recorded an average income of approximately VND32 million (US$1,408) per capita, with the multidimensional poverty rate of rural households staying at only 5.93%.
