Tet sees big surge in foreign tourists

VGP - The number of foreign tourists arriving in Viet Nam during Tet holidays posted a year-on-year increase by 20.8%, said the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism

According to General Director of the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan over 722,300 foreign visitors have arrived in Viet Nam in January, an increase of 7.5% compared to last December.

Key tourism destinations such as Ha Noi, Ha Long, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hue also witnessed sharp rises in the number of foreign visitors.

Especially, from January 27 to February 9, the capital city of Ha Noi welcomed 2.5 million of domestic guests and 110,000 foreign tourists (up 12% against the same period in 2013).

Meanwhile, around 382,000 foreigners visited HCMC, representing a year-on-year increase of 12%.

A large number of foreign visitors came from the Republic of Korea, Japan, the US, and Canada. 

As of late January, 2014, Viet Nam received 722,349 foreign tourists, a month-on-month increase of 7.45% and year-on-year surge of 20.79%./.

Last year, Viet Nam attracted over 7.5 million foreign visitors, year-on-year surge of 10.6%. The industry is hoping to lure more than 8.3 million foreign visitors this year, said Mr. Tuan.
