The event targets to encourage people to conserve energy, raise public awareness about the benefits of saving energy, environmental protection and adaptation to global climate change.

Thousands of people in Ha Noi gathered at August Revolution Square to observe the Earth Hour Campaign 2014 and show their support for climate and energy conservation and preservation.

Meanwhile, a rally was also staged in HCM city in observation of the fifth annual event.

During the one hour of saving energy in response to the campaign, (20:30pm to 21:30pm), estimated 431,000 kWh have been saved, equivalent to an amount of VND 650 million.

Locals are also encouraged to turn off their unnecessary lights and electrical appliances during that time.

It’s the sixth time Viet Nam has joined the global Earth Hour campaign. Last year, the country saved around 401,000 kWh during the 2013 Earth Hour./.
