Addressing the Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta tourism connection forum, themed “Connectivity for sustainable development’, on September 5, the deputy PM said that the HCM City-Mekong Delta connection is a natural, necessary and promising combination.

HCM City is a large economic hub of the country and a focal point for multifaceted exchanges in the region, where many good models and initiatives have been proposed, contributing to the nation’s renewal process. Meanwhile, the Mekong Delta region possesses huge potential for the development of many types of tourism, especially water-based tourism, in addition to unique cultural and heritage features.

Deputy PM Dam affirmed that tourism is not only a spearhead economic sector but also contributes to advertising the image of Viet Nam and enhancing exchanges between the country’s regions and the world.

Applauding the proper theme of the forum, he urged for the improvement of the quality of tourism services and products to satisfy visitors, emphasizing that the people should be the centre of tourism activities and need to be allowed to participate in and benefit from tourism.

The official spoke highly of the initiative to establish a HCM City and Mekong Delta tourism development council with the mission of building a common tourism brand for the Mekong Delta region and enhancing its cooperation and exchange with countries in the Mekong River Basin, ASEAN member nations and others worldwide.
