Strengthening education cooperation with ASEAN peers

VGP – Within the framework of the 5th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (AEMM) and the 45th Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council Conference in Cebu, the Republic of the Philippines, Deputy PM, Minister of Education and Training Nguyễn Thiện Nhân met educational chiefs of Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore.

In their talks, Deputy PM Nhân and Malaysian Deputy PM, Minister of Education Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were unanimous in encouraging and creating favorable conditions for bilateral cooperation in training and scientific and technological researches between Vietnamese and Malaysian universities as well as enhancing exchange activities among their teachers and students.

Meeting the host Minister of Education Datu Jesli A Lapus, Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân highly appreciated the host country’s efforts to hold the education meetings and affirmed that Việt Nam will contribute more to the development of the 45th SEAMEO.

The two leaders agreed to set up cooperative programs on human resources training and development.

Accordingly, Việt Nam will assist the Philippines to nurture math talents at all levels while the latter helps to train Vietnamese nurses at international standards.

Receiving Minister of Singapore Eng Hen on the same day, Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân appraised success of the Framework Agreement on Việt NamSingapore Connectivity, under which education is one of six major fields of connection.

In 2008-9, thanks to the support of Singapore, thousands of Vietnamese education administrators have been trained.

The two ministers approved to continue providing scholarships for Vietnamese students and education manageres, teaching English and exchanging teachers.
