Lao Defence Minister expressed his pleasure to visit Viet Nam for the first time since taking office earlier this year, hoping that the trip would cement and deepen the relations between the two countries especially in the area of national defense.

Mr. Sayalath briefed his host about the outcomes of the recent talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, General Phung Quang Thanh, including the exchange of experience in strengthening their respective military capacities; the sharing of information on the East Sea, and his tours to some military and economic establishments in Viet Nam.

The Lao defence leader thanked Viet Nam for supporting his country during its struggle for independence and the ongoing process of nation-building.

He pledged to spare no effort to preserve and promote the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos.

For his part, State President Sang congratulated the appointment of Mr. Sengnuon Saynhalat, urging both sides to early seek effective measures to realize the signed agreements.

In the context of a rapidly changing world, Viet Nam and Laos should promote their solidarity and mutual support, bringing progress and prosperity to both countries and the region, the host leader said./.
