State President starts State visit to Japan

In 2018, Viet Nam and Japan are celebrating the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. The two nations’ high-ranking leaders have organized visits and exchanges at international and regional forums, launching crucial cooperative mechanisms and enhancing close coordination at multi-lateral forums such as the UN, ASEAN, APEC and ASEM. 

Japan is one of Viet Nam’s key economic partners. In 2017, the countries' two-way trade value reached US$33.4 billion, up 16.8% against the previous year. Japan has taken the lead among nations and territories investing in Viet Nam with US$9.11 billion. 

As of March 2018, Japan has poured US$49.839 billion in 3,693 valid FDI projects in Viet Nam, ranking second. 

Japan is the largest Official Development Assistance (ODA) provider for Viet Nam, focusing on such areas as infrastructure, competitiveness enhancement, high-quality human resources training, climate change adaption and other areas. 

Cooperation in other sectors such as defense-security, agriculture, education-training and labor have gained achievements along with enhancement in people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in culture and tourism. 

State President Tran Dai Quang’s State visit to Japan has affirmed the nation’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, openness, diversification and multilateralization of external relations, enhanced the political trusts between the two nations’ high-ranking leaders and tightened the Viet Nam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia. 

The President is accompanied by Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh, Minister of Public Security To Lam, Vice Chairman of National Assembly Phung Quoc Hien, Chairman of the Presidential Office Dao Viet Trung, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Minister of Construction Pham Hong Ha.
