State President shares experiences in rural development at UN
VGP – State President Truong Tan Sang shared Viet Nam’s experiences of sustainable rural and community development at a high level dialogue in New York, the U.S., on September 26.
The event, jointly organized by the UN Development Program, the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development, and the Republic of Korea, was also attended by the UN Secretary General, Presidents of the Republic of Korea, Laos, Peru, Rwanda.
Speaking at the event, State President Sang noted that the Agenda 2030 reflects the common aspiration for a poverty-free world against the backdrop of over half of the global population living in rural areas.
He said Viet Nam supports the inclusion of enhanced investment for rural infrastructure and technological application in the Agenda 2030 with a view to improving agricultural production capacity in developing countries.
The Vietnamese State President called on developing countries with limited resources to design proper rural development strategies. As 70% of the population in rural areas, Viet Nam adopted a national program on rural development covering 19 criteria, which has brought about major changes, especially in terms of infrastructure and incomes of rural residents.
Rural development requires strong political commitment as well as active participation of the whole society, State President Sang highlighted.
In this process, rural residents take the central role while the Government provides funding for necessary demands and introduces incentive policies to encourage enterprises, organizations and individuals to join rural development programs.
State President Sang affirmed that Viet Nam stands ready to share its experiences with other countries to ensure that no one left behind./.
