Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang

Regarding a question on economic development plan in the future, the Vietnamese Head of State said that India and Viet Nam are "blessed" with strategic locations in South Asia and South East Asia, respectively, and there is immense potential for the two countries to cooperate in different areas.

India is one of the ten largest trade partners of Viet Nam in which two-way trade turnover grew 16% over the last ten years. A large number of large-scale Indian groups beefed up investment and business in Viet Nam. India has given priority to Viet Nam in development cooperation and education and training, and paid attention to promoting the bilateral cooperation in science and technology, information and communication, energy, oil and gas, agriculture and tourism.

In response to a question on field of investment, State President Quang said that Viet Nam hopes that Indian investors would pour more investment into the Southeast Asian nation and convert itself into one of the biggest investors there, especially bring the two-way trade turnover to US$ 15 billion by 2020. Renewable energy, processing industry, IT technology, infrastructure construction which India has strength and Viet Nam has demand.

Mr. Quang proposed the two countries beef up bilateral and regional connectivity on aviation, road, shipping, and digital connectivity.

He recommended the two countries set up dialogue mechanism among businesses and businesses, businesses and the Government; forge forums to share mutual concerns, strategies, and visions on cooperative development.

State President Quang also responded to a question in relation to India's Act East Policy. According to Mr. Quang, Viet Nam has on many occasions affirmed her strong support for India's "Act East" policy and for India  to play a more active role in the maintenance of peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.  ASEAN countries and India share many similarities in culture, history and strategic interests. Both sides need to strengthen and deepen the Strategic Partnership, promote economic, trade and investment cooperation development, increase cooperation on land, air, maritime and digital connectivity, and promote cultural and people-to-people exchange.

The implementation of the "Act East" Policy will help deepen the ASEAN - India Strategic Partnership and fulfill the practical interests of both sides. The policy will also boost the establishment of a sustainable and inclusive regional architecture based on international law, thus contributing to an environment of peace, stability, cooperation and development. Viet Nam and ASEAN will work closely with India in all areas to realize the common goals of a bright future for the Indo-Asia-Pacific./.
