State President Tran Dai Quang  receives outgoing Uruguayan Ambassador to Viet Nam Carlos Irigaray Santana, Ha Noi, November 23, 2017

At the reception, the Uruguayan diplomat thanked Vietnamese Government, ministries and sectors for helping him fulfill his tasks over the past six years.

In the past six years, the two sides have inked a number of cooperation agreements, creating a foundation for collaboration in various fields, he said, noting that Uruguay wants to complete a deal with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to bring Uruguayan beef and other farm produce to the Vietnamese market.

As part of efforts to increase links between ministries and sectors of Uruguay and Viet Nam, Uruguay opened its Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this year, he said.

The ambassador also took the occasion to convey President Tarabe Vazquez’s invitation to President Tran Dai Quang to visit Uruguay, stressing that the Vietnamese President’s first visit to the country is a significant milestone in bilateral relations.

President Quang said he will arrange to pay a state visit to the South American country and invited President Tarabe Vazquez to visit Viet Nam.

In turn, President Quang expressed his delight at the comprehensive development of bilateral relations which was reflected through visits of high-ranking leaders and officials from ministries and sectors of both nations.

Viet Nam and Uruguay have paid due attention to enhancing cooperation in economy and trade, culture, tourism as well as education and training, he said, adding that they have worked closely and supported each other at international organizations and multilateral forums, especially the UN and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation.

The President expected that both sides will promote strengths and potentials to deepen cooperative ties while affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches much importance to developing relations with countries in South America, including Uruguay.

The Vietnamese leader also hoped that with considerable understanding of two countries relations, the diplomat will continue his efforts to support and further promote the sound friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Viet Nam and Uruguay.
