State President receives int’l guests on sideline of APEC

VGP – State President Tran Dai Quang on November 9 hosted receptions for Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, Malaysian PM Najib Tun Razak and State Counselor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi who are the central city of Da Nang to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

At the reception for PM of Papua New Guinea Peter O'Neill on November 9, State President Tran Dai Quang asserted that Viet Nam is willing to support and share experience to help Papua New Guinea fulfil its role as host of the APEC Year 2018.

The President asked the PM and the Papua New Guinea Government to handle the local arrest of Vietnamese fishing vessels based on humanitarian spirit and bilateral relations.

For his part, PM O'Neill said he believes Viet Nam will organize the APEC Year 2017 with success and invited State President Tran Dai Quang to attend the APEC 2018 Economic Leaders’ Week in Papua New Guinea.

He pledged to promptly and properly deal with the issue of Vietnamese fishermen.

Both sides agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in agriculture, oil and gas exploration, fishery, and tourism, to improve legal framework in facilitation of bilateral trade and investment, and to support each other at international forums and organizations.

Regarding the East Sea issue, both sides shared a common view on conflict resettlement in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

At the meeting with Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on November 9, the Vietnamese State leader and the Peruvian President, commented on cooperation between the two countries over the past time, with two-way trade exceeding US$350 million in 2016, tripling that in 2010.

The two countries have also coordinated with each other at multi-lateral mechanisms, especially the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and negotiations of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

Viet Nam and Peru boast a lot of potential for cooperation, President Quang said, urging the two countries to deepen their bilateral ties and intensify the exchange of all-level delegations in order to increase mutual understanding and development.

For his part, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski affirmed that Peru attaches importance to development cooperation with Viet Nam and will create optimal conditions for Vietnamese investors in the country.

On this occasion, he shared losses caused by recent typhoon Damrey in Viet Nam.

The two leaders also talked about regional and global issues of shared concern and consented to continue coordination at the UN, APEC, the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) and other multilateral cooperation frameworks.

President Tran Dai Quang had a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in central Da Nang city on November 9 within the framework of the ongoing APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. 

At the meeting, the President urged the two sides to well organize activities marking the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2018 and soon implement consultation mechanisms such as the high-level defense cooperation committee and the working group on cross-border crime combat. 

Malaysian PM Najib Tun Razak praised Viet Nam’s efforts to organise APEC Year 2017 in general and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in particular at his meeting with State President Tran Dai Quang on November 9.

He pledged to step up economic, trade and investment ties with Viet Nam, especially in export-import, oil and gas, tourism and labor. 

Malaysia will create favorable conditions for Vietnamese to live in the country and protect their legitimate rights, the PM promised. 

Both leaders noted with joy the fruitful developments of the Viet Nam-Malaysia strategic partnership in various areas, ranging from politics-diplomacy and national defense-security to economic, trade and investment. 

They agreed to increase the exchange of all-level delegations and closely coordinate with each other to organize activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic next year. 

The two sides will also urge relevant agencies to soon implement bilateral consultation mechanisms and sign agreements in order to create legal frameworks for cooperation in specific areas. 

They also discussed regional and international of shared concern and agreed to intensify consensus within ASEAN and carry forwards the group’s central role in dealing with important matters.

While receiving State Counselor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi on November 9, State President Tran Dai Quang congratulated Myanmar on recent socio-economic progress with a belief in the country’s success in its national reconciliation process and position improvement in the regional and global stages.

He took note of the new development in Viet Nam – Myanmar ties, particularly after the state visit made by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Myanmar late August.

He said during the visit, bilateral relations were lifted to comprehensive cooperative partnership and several agreements were signed.

Aung San Suu Kyi stated Myanmar pays heed to the development of comprehensive cooperative partnership with Viet Nam and is committed to creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese investors in Myanmar.

Both sides agreed to increase people-to-people exchanges and exchange visits among the two countries’ delegations at all levels.

Agreements were also reached in facilitating the formation of cooperation mechanisms in agro-forestry-fishery and transport, and in supporting each other at regional and international forums, particularly in sub-regional cooperation mechanisms such as the ASEAN, Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), and Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam-Myanmar (CLMV) and East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC).
