The State President made that statement on May 17 at his reception for Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn who is in Viet Nam to co-chair the 16th meeting of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

The host valued the regular exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high level ones, between the two countries, along with the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms in trade, investment, education, tourism, security, and defense, as well as collaboration among ministries, sectors and localities.

He asked Minister Prak Sokhonn to convey his regards to King Norodom Sihamoni and expressed his wish to welcome the King to visit Viet Nam later the year.

Minister Prak Sokhonn briefed his host on outcomes of the 16th meeting of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, including discussions on a wide range of issues such as economy, trade, investment, culture, society, security, and defense as well as their determination to thoroughly settle border-related issues.

The State President proposed that in the coming time, the two sides should exert more efforts in seeking more effective measures to finish the rest of the work, while coordinating closely in managing a shared border towards peace and stability.

He said that he hopes the Cambodian side will continue applying flexibly related policies to assist Vietnamese Cambodians, with the consideration of political, legal, historical and social factors to create optimal conditions for the community, helping them settle down in the host country and make contributions to the local development.
