State President meets with leaders at AAC

VGP – State President Truong Tan Sang on April 23 met with high-ranking leaders from Iran, Indonesia, Palestine, Egypt, Japan, Cambodia and Singapore on the sidelines of the Asian-African Conference (AAC) 2015.

Meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, the State President asserted that Viet Nam attaches importance to the multi-lateral relations with Iran, lauding active achievements of nuclear negotiations between Iran and P5 1 and the country’s role as the Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement for the 2012-2015 tenure. 

As an active ASEAN member, Viet Nam should work with Iran in connecting ASEAN and the Economic Cooperation Organization that groups 10 Middle East and Central Asian countries, suggested the Iranian President.

At his meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, State President Truong Tan Sang highly spoke of the successful organization of the World Economic Forum on East Asia and the Asian-African Conference as well as active role of the nation in boosting cooperation between the Asia and the Africa in terms of politics, economics and society.

The two sides confirmed to closely cooperate in organizing activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

They applauded on the two-way trade turnover of US$5.4 billion in 2014, agreeing to upgrade the figure to US$10 billion by 2018.

Regarding to the East Sea issue, the two leaders re-asserted the importance of ensuring marine peace, stability, security, safety and freedom on the East Sea, dealing with disputes based on international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.

State President Truong Tan Sang affirmed that Egypt is a crucial partner of Viet Nam in Africa at his meeting with Egypt’s PM Ibrahim Mahleb.

Viet Nam expects to promote cooperation with Egypt in terms of trade and investment promotion, telecommunications, oil and gas, aquatic, agriculture and health, said State President Sang.

He proposed the two sides organize the joint Committee's meeting and strive to raise the two-way trade turnover to US$1 billion.

At the meeting with Palestinian PM Rami Hamdallah, State President Truong Tan Sang acclaimed the establishment of a joint Committee to promote bilateral cooperation activities, suggesting the two nations enhance cooperation in aquaculture.  

State President Sang and Japanese PM Shinzō Abe exchanged measures to strengthen Viet Nam-Japan extensive Strategic Partnership relations.

The State President suggested the two sides launch effectively agreements in the auxiliary industry and agriculture.

PM Abe asserted that Japan will continue the Official Development Assistance (ODA) for Viet Nam and enhance cooperation at international and regional forums.

At the meeting with Cambodian PM Hun Sen, the two leaders consented to promote the comprehensive relations for the sake of the two nations’ people, peace, stability and development in Southeast Asia.

State President Truong Tan Sang and Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong hailed the achievements in Viet Nam-Singapore Strategic Partnership.

They agreed to carry out measures to accelerate economic, trade and investment relations and operate Viet Nam-Singapore Industrial Parks effectively.
