State President holds phone talks with US President

VGP – State President Tran Dai Quang and US President Donald Trump discussed on bilateral ties as well as regional and international situation during their phone talks on February 14.

The talks took place in the context that the Viet Nam-US relationship continues to develop substantively and effectively on the basis of respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political system, as well as for the benefits of the two countries’ people and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

President Donald Trump extended his greetings to the Vietnamese leaders and people on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year; expressing his impressions on the achievements gained by the Vietnamese people over the past year.

President Trump also thanked the Vietnamese leaders and people for their warm welcome for him and the high-ranking US delegation during his State visit to Viet Nam and participation in the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Da Nang city last November.

He affirmed that the US attaches great importance to its relations with Viet Nam and the Southeast Asian country’s active role in the region, affirming the US will continue working with Viet Nam to further promote the bilateral Comprehensive Partnership in the time to come.

State President Quang congratulated the US Government and people on their achievements made during State President Trump’s first year in office, saying the US President’s State visit to Viet Nam and his attendance in the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting marked a significant milestone, creating a strong driving force for the effective and stable advancement of the Viet Nam-US Comprehensive Partnership.

The Vietnamese leader emphasized that Viet Nam treasures the friendship and cooperation with the US and will actively work with the country to create new and practical progresses for the bilateral relations in the future.

The two Presidents exchanged views on concrete measures to strengthen the bilateral ties, focusing on the realization of the agreements reached by the two countries’ senior leaders. 

They agreed to continue prioritizing the promotion of economic and trade relations, considering them a focus of and driving force for bilateral ties. 

The two leaders also agreed to foster bilateral cooperation in such as areas as addressing was consequences, including the implementation of a dioxin remediation project in Bien Hoa airport.

Regarding the regional and international situation, the two leaders reaffirmed both sides’ positions on the East Sea issue.

They agreed to maintain high-level exchanges, contacts and meetings to promote bilateral relations for the benefits of the two countries’ people, thus contributing to consolidating peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world./.
