State President hails 2011’s achievements

VGP – State President Trương Tấn Sang has hailed the well performance of the national economy in 2011 amid numerous challenges it had faced, attributing it to the sound leadership of the Party, the effective management of the State and concerted endeavors of the entire people and businesses.

In the face of rising inflation and macro-economic instability risks, the Politburo issued Conclusion 02, and then the Government promulgated Resolution 11 which defined synchronous measures, including tight monetary and fiscal policies, public investment reduction, credit growth reduction, tax exemption and reduction along side with new social welfare  policies.

Accordingly, inflation was gradually put under control and the macro-economy made progress with GDP expanding at nearly 6%, the State President noted.

In addition, social welfare has been paid due investment; political security, social order and safety has been secured; national defense and security has been enhanced, and the country’s prestige has been promoted on the international stage, State President Sang emphasized.

He said in 2012, Việt Nam will continue to pursue tight monetary and fiscal policies in order to rein in inflation and stabilize the marco-economy; issue more policies to ensure social welfare, reduce corporate tax; and lower lending interest rates.

Besides, the country will also focus on three areas of economic restructuring, namely public investment, State-owned enterprises, and commercial banks.

Other central tasks include renovating growth modality, accelerating scientific and technological application, and improving human resource quality.

Regarding this year’s diplomatic field, State President Sang said Việt Nam has deployed a string of bilateral and multi-lateral diplomatic activities from central to local levels  in couple with people-to-people exchanges.

He affirmed that the country has still been an attractive investment destination with FDI and ODA remaining huge, despite political upheaval in many regions and global economic downturn.

The State President said foreign investors are heading to Việt Nam because they have seen a stable and growing Việt Nam in the long run.

On the sovereignty issue, State President Sang affirmed that the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are unalienable and sacred. In the context of disputes in the East Sea, the Vietnamese Party and State have always persisted in using peaceful solutions on the basis of international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea as the two afore-said documents are standards widely recognized by the international community, and on the basis of the Agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues signed between Việt Nam and China last October.

On the occasion of the New Year, State President Trương Tấn Sang extended his best wishes to all fellow countrymen, comrades, soldiers, and overseas Vietnamese people.

He also extended his wishes for friendship, cooperation and development to people around the world, nations, and friends who are living and working in Việt Nam.
