Viet Nam attaches importance to cooperation with Canada

State President Sang made the point while meeting with Canadian PM Justin Trudeau on late November 19.

The Vietnamese leader congratulated the new Canadian PM and proposed the two sides put forth measures to cement and deepen the bilateral ties and realize the signed agreements.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau emphasized that Viet Nam is an increasingly important partner of Canada. The new Canadian Government hopes to shake hands with Viet Nam in economics, trade, investment, politics, diplomacy, ODA provision, and education.

The two sides were convinced that the TPP Agreement would bring in fine prospects for the bilateral trade ties and promote regional and global connectivity.

The two sides also took the occasion to discuss regional and international issues of common concern.

Promoting ties with Papua New Guinea

The same day, meeting with Papua New Guinea’s PM Peter O’Neill, State President Sang suggested the two countries early negotiate and sign cooperative trade and investment agreements in such areas as agriculture, rice, rubber planting, furniture, aquaculture, and petroleum.

PM Peter O’Neill agreed to cooperate with Viet Nam at multilateral forums especially in 2017 and 2018 in which the two countries will in turn chair APEC.

Earlier, on November 18, State President Sang had brief meetings with Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, RoK’s President Park Geun-hye, Chilean President M. Bachelet, Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull, and Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
