State President Tran Dai Quang to pay state visit to Japan

VGP - Sate President Tran Dai Quang and his wife will make a State visit to Japan from May 29 to June 2 at the invitation of the State of Japan, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

May 23, 2018 11:30 AM GMT+7

Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko are scheduled to meet with and hold a state banquet in honour of President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse.

This is the first State visit to Japan by President Tran Dai Quang as President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.

The visit takes place at a time when the Viet Nam-Japan cooperative relations are in their most flourishing period ever and have achieved remarkable progress across numerous fields such as politics- economics, security-defence, culture- education, agriculture, local cooperation, labor, and people-to-people exchange, especially after the relationship between the two countries was upgraded to the level of Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia in 2014.

During the visit, President Quang will also hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The two countries have maintained high-level meetings, with the highlights being visits to Viet Nam in 2017 by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, and PM Shinzo Abe.

The year also marked a new development step in the bilateral relations as the two countries issued a joint statement on deepening the Extensive Strategic Partnership during the official visit to Japan by PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Japan and Viet Nam have closely and effectively coordinated in multilateral forums such as the UN, ASEAN, APEC and ASEM.

Last year, Japan became the largest foreign investor in Viet Nam, with total registered capital of US$9.11 billion, equivalent to 25.4% of the total inflow of foreign direct investment in the Southeast Asian country.
