Sri Lankan PM Ratnasiri Wickramanayake pays an official visit to Vietnam

VNGOVNet – At the invitation of PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr. Ratnasiri Wickramanayake, paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 26-29, 2006.

After the solemn reception at the Presidential Palace in the morning of November 27, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had talks with PM Ratnasiri Wickramanayake at the head office of the Government.

The two PMs agreed that, beside developing their traditional friendship, the two sides should further increase two-way trade turnover, which is now still low, strengthen their investment and cooperation ties in the fields of their advantages, and create more favorable conditions for  Vietnamese and Sri Lankan enterprises to seek opportunities of cooperation in production and business. Vietnam will open its embassy in Sri Lanka soon.

The two sides also mentioned some international and regional issues of common concern and affirmed that Vietnam and Sri Lanka would closely collaborate with each other on regional and multilateral fora. Mr. Ratnasiri Wickramaynayake invited Mr. Nguyễn Tấn Dũng to Sri Lanka for an official visit. The latter expressed his thanks and adopted the invitation.

After the talks, the two PMs witnessed Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Đức Phát and Sri Lankan Minister of Agriculture Chamal Rajapakse sign the "Memorandum on Bilateral Cooperation in Agricultural Development."
